Dr. Sandra So Hee Chi Kim is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Asian and Asian American Studies at Stony Brook University. Her work focuses on transnational cultural studies, critical Korean studies, and modern empire studies, examining intersections of race, coloniality, ethnonationalism, migration, and culture. She is the founder and chair of the Asian American Justice + Innovation Lab, and received the 2023 David L. Ferguson Award for Excellence in Inclusive Teaching.
Her research explores historical and cultural dynamics such as the Korean War's impact on kinship structures, postcolonial memory frameworks, and transpacific literary connections. Current projects include a book manuscript titled Kinning Empire: Transcoloniality, Kinship, and Korean Historical Trauma.
