Sandra Sims

Sandra Sims is a Professor at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) in the School of Education's Human Studies department. She holds appointments since 2013, previously serving as Associate Professor (2013–2022) and Assistant Professor (2005–2011). Her expertise spans Curriculum and Pedagogy, Human Movement/Sports Sciences, Public Health, Education Specialist Studies, and Performing Arts.

Education: PhD in Physical Education Teaching and Coaching (University of Southern Mississippi, 2003); EdS, MA, and BA in related fields from UAB and University of Montevallo (1983–1997).

Research & Service: Co-authored a Human Kinetics textbook on integrating physical/health education. Published 25+ refereed national journal articles and delivered 268 presentations (143 invited, including 16 keynote). Active in professional leadership, including roles on the National Academy of Health and Physical Literacy Board, Southern Tier Health Representative, and state-level Alabama associations.

Personal: Enjoys outdoor activities like walking, swimming, and wildlife photography, embodying her philosophy of 'Finding Joy in the Journey.'
