Jana Villanueva

Jana Villanueva is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Clinical and Diagnostic Sciences at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), School of Health Professions. She joined UAB on November 1, 2019, and serves as Co-Director of Clinical Education while teaching pharmacology and clinical medicine with an emphasis on inquiry-based learning. She also practices as a Physician Assistant (PA) at UAB Highlands Family Medicine.

Education:

• Bachelor of Science in Biology, Bryan College (2009)
• Master of Science in PA Studies, Wake Forest School of Medicine (2014)

Research & Interests: Focuses on medical care for underserved populations, leadership development using the Enneagram, and student mental health. Active in the SHP Wellness Walk/Jog/Run group and guest lectures in behavioral medicine. Enjoys outdoor activities like hiking, trail running, and triathlons.

Advising & Clinical Roles: Leads clinical education initiatives and contributes to student wellness programs. Maintains a clinical role in family medicine.

Labs/Teams: Engaged with the SHP Wellness Walk/Jog/Run group and collaborates on behavioral medicine initiatives.
