The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houstonمعرفی
Dr. Sandra Pritzkow is an Associate Professor at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston's Mitchell Center for Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Brain Disorders. She holds a PhD in Natural Sciences from Freie University of Berlin and completed postdoctoral training on environmental prion transmission mechanisms under Dr. Claudio Soto.
Her research examines molecular mechanisms of prion propagation and protein misfolding in neurodegenerative diseases. Primary interests include:
- Prion disease pathogenesis and diagnostics
- Environmental transmission pathways
- Protein Misfolding Cyclic Amplification (PMCA) technology
- Alzheimer's and Parkinson's biomarker detection
- Neurodegenerative disease mechanisms
Her recent publications (2011-2016) demonstrate consistent focus on prion detection methodologies, environmental persistence of pathogens, and diagnostic applications. Research evolves from basic scrapie characterization toward human diagnostic translations, increasingly incorporating multidisciplinary approaches combining neuroscience, environmental science, and diagnostic technology.
Dr. Pritzkow leads a project seeking regulatory approval for PMCA blood testing for human prion diseases and collaborates internationally to expand protein misfolding detection to Alzheimer's and Parkinson's research.
