Zerui Wang, MD, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pathology and the Center for Global Health & Diseases at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. His research focuses on understanding misfolded proteins in neurodegenerative diseases such as prion, Alzheimer’s, and Parkinson’s diseases. He specializes in protein chemistry, RT-QuIC, and sPMCA assays for biomarker development.
Key contributions include developing skin-based biomarkers for prion diseases and synucleinopathies, optimizing RT-QuIC and sPMCA techniques, and investigating prion transmission routes. His work has been supported by grants from the CJD Foundation, NIH (U01, R01), and the Michael J. Fox Foundation (MJFF).
Research interests span protein aggregation mechanisms, early disease detection, and therapeutic targets. Notable publications highlight skin α-synuclein seeding activity as a Parkinson’s biomarker and prion detection in preclinical stages. Wang collaborates broadly, contributing to global health initiatives through the Center for Global Health & Diseases.
