Sandra M. Linder is a Professor of Early Childhood Mathematics Education in the College of Education at Clemson University, affiliated with the Department of Teaching and Learning. Her work focuses on improving mathematics education for children from birth to age 8 through research, teaching, and innovative projects.

Her research interests include early childhood mathematics education, STEM/STEAM integration, teacher quality, professional development for birth-age 8 educators, family engagement in mathematical play, and the application of the Reggio Emilia approach in U.S. early childhood settings. She emphasizes improving student and teacher dispositions toward mathematics and enhancing instructional practices through evidence-based interventions.
Dr. Linder directs two key initiatives: Project MathPack, a family-based intervention promoting mathematical play with preschool children, and Project BEEMS, a professional development program supporting childcare providers in early math instruction. These projects reflect her commitment to bridging research and practice in early mathematics education.
She serves as a section editor for two journals by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC): Young Children (Growing in STEM) and Teaching Young Children (Full STEAM Ahead), highlighting her national leadership in the field.
Dr. Linder teaches a variety of courses including Early Childhood Math Methods, Elementary Math Methods, Child Growth and Development, Integrating Math, Science, and Technology in Early Childhood, and research methods such as Grounded Theory and Phenomenology. She also leads a study abroad program to Reggio Emilia, Italy, connecting international best practices to U.S. early childhood education.
She has extensive experience as a K–5 classroom teacher in New Jersey and has provided professional development to in-service teachers across the United States for over 13 years.
