Sandra Geary

Sandra Geary is a Lecturer in the Department of Music at Washington University in St. Louis, where she has served since 2003. She also holds an adjunct faculty position at Webster University. Her roles include teaching piano, serving as accompanist for the Washington University Opera, Chamber Chorus, Bach Society of St. Louis, and Opera Theatre of Saint Louis. Geary is affiliated with the Webster Community Music School and has extensive experience in collaborative piano and vocal accompaniment across multiple institutions.

Geary holds a Master of Music from the Saint Louis Conservatory of Music, as well as diplomas from the Cork School of Music (Ireland), Royal Schools of Music (London), and Trinity College London. Her career spans over three decades of teaching and performance in the St. Louis area.

Her research interests focus on music pedagogy, particularly in applied piano instruction and collaborative performance practices. As a recipient of the 2009 Artist Presentation Award, she is recognized for her expertise in vocal accompaniment. Beyond academia, she contributes to regional arts organizations through her accompaniment work in recitals, auditions, and recordings.

Geary’s professional affiliations include long-term roles as accompanist for the Washington University Opera (since 1991) and Bach Society of St. Louis (since 1993). Her teaching spans institutions like the St. Louis Conservatory and Symphony School, reflecting her commitment to nurturing musical talent across diverse educational settings.
