Sandra Eckert is Full University Professor and Chair of Comparative Politics at the Friedrich Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg (FAU), where she leads research on European governance structures. Previously, she served as Associate Professor at the Aarhus Institute of Advanced Studies and Assistant Professor at Goethe University Frankfurt, with teaching experience at multiple European institutions including SciencesPo Lyon and the University of Freiburg.
Her research focuses on governance in the European multilevel system, European integration, regulatory governance, and the circular economy. She examines how regulatory power operates across different sectors including banking, energy, and environmental policy, with particular attention to the interplay between public authorities and private actors in shaping European integration.
Her recent publications demonstrate a clear trend toward analyzing the geoeconomic dimensions of EU regulatory policy and the integration of sustainability concerns, particularly regarding plastics regulation and the circular economy. Her work bridges theoretical frameworks with empirical analysis of specific regulatory domains, showing how crises reshape regulatory governance.
- Principal Investigator for 'Regulating the Circular Economy and Plastics in the OECD World' (German Israeli Foundation)
- Partner in the Jean Monnet Network VISTA on EU Single Market Integration
- Investigator in the Research Group 'The Economic and Monetary Union at the Crossroads'
Professor Eckert has advised on multiple research projects examining EU regulatory responses to crises and the evolving nature of European integration. Her work connects academic research with policy relevance, particularly regarding sustainable development and regulatory innovation in the European context.
