Sandra D'ALFONSO serves as a Full Professor in the Department of Health Sciences at the University of Eastern Piedmont 'Amedeo Avogadro', where she leads significant research in neurogenetics and immune-mediated diseases. Her work spans multiple European and national projects including WISDOM and GENIALS.
Her research focuses on the genetic underpinnings of neurodegenerative and autoimmune disorders, particularly amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), multiple sclerosis, and systemic lupus erythematosus. Utilizing advanced genomic techniques and machine learning, her team investigates gene-environment interactions, disease progression mechanisms, and novel therapeutic targets. Key areas include genome-wide association studies, genetic biomarker discovery, and population-specific variant analysis in Italian cohorts.
Professor D'ALFONSO's publication record shows consistent output since 1990 with 208 research contributions, demonstrating sustained leadership in neurogenetics. Her recent work emphasizes multi-omics integration and AI-driven approaches to complex disease modeling.
She currently leads 13 research projects including the EU-funded WISDOM initiative (2023-2028) focused on chronic immune-mediated diseases and the MUR-supported GENIALS project studying genetic factors in ALS progression.
