Sandra Ann Carson

Sandra Ann Carson, M.D. is Professor and Section Chief of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (REI) in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences at Yale University School of Medicine. Previously, she served as the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists' (ACOG) Vice President of Education and held professorships at Women and Infants' Hospital of Rhode Island, Brown University and Tufts Medical School.

Dr. Carson's research focuses on reproductive endocrinology, infertility, and women's health, with particular expertise in uterine lavage techniques, fertility preservation, polycystic ovary syndrome, and ovarian function. Her work bridges clinical practice with innovative research, including the development of the Artificial Human Ovary, recognized as a top 10 medical breakthrough by Time magazine in 2010. Her recent publications demonstrate continued leadership in advancing reproductive medicine through both clinical research and educational initiatives.

Throughout her distinguished career, Dr. Carson has published over 130 peer-reviewed papers, 60 book chapters, and 6 books. Her research has been consistently funded by the NIH for 18 years, reflecting the significance and impact of her work in reproductive science.

She chaired FDA's Reproductive Drugs Advisory Committee and served on the NICHD Council. Her editorial roles include associate editor for the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology and editor-in-chief of Sexuality, Reproduction and Menopause and Journal Watch, Women's Health.
