معرفی
Sanborn Tenney (1827-1877) was Vassar College's inaugural Professor of Natural History from 1865-1868. Educated at Amherst College (BA) and Harvard University, he studied under Louis Agassiz. Tenney developed the natural sciences curriculum encompassing geology, botany, and zoology, while establishing the college's scientific collections.
His academic stance strongly opposed Darwinian evolution, reflected in textbooks like Geology: For Teachers, Classes, and Private Students (1859) and Natural History of Animals (1866) which argued for creationist perspectives. Pedagogical approaches emphasized hands-on learning through specimen collection and field observation.
Following his Vassar tenure, he served as Professor of Natural History at Williams College (1872-1877) and authored multiple textbooks integrating scientific observation with theological interpretations of nature.
