Sana Haroon is a Professor in the Department of History and Asian Studies at the University of Massachusetts Boston. Her expertise spans South Asian history, Islamic studies, and borderlands research, with a focus on social history, oral history, and spatial history. She leads the Life Stories from the Islamic World Oral History Project and co-directed the Women in Public Service in Pakistan Oral History Project at LUMS University.
Her academic career includes teaching roles at the University of East London, Zayed University, IBA-University of Karachi, and Yale University. She previously held prestigious fellowships such as the Isobel Thornley Fellowship at SOAS and the Malathy Singh Lectureship at Yale.
Haroon's research examines Muslim social organization, colonial and post-colonial South Asia, and historical methodologies. Her publications include studies on mosques, Sufi orders, tribal governance, and reformist movements in South Asia.
