معرفی
Samuel W. Stevens is a Lecturer at the University of British Columbia (UBC) and a postdoctoral researcher at the Hakai Institute, contributing to the Canadian-Pacific Robotic Ocean Observing Facility (CPROOF). He holds a PhD in Oceanography from UBC (2017–2024), following a BSc from the University of Southampton and prior roles as a Research Technician at the Bermuda Atlantic Time-series Study and a MetOcean Scientist at Fugro EMU.
His research focuses on understanding ocean evolution, physical processes influencing coastal ecosystems, and developing low-cost instruments like 'Swish floats' for dispersion tracking. He teaches courses such as EOSC 473/573 (Methods in Oceanography), EOSC 112 (The Fluid Earth), and EOSC 211 (Computer Methods in EOAS).
Stevens’ work integrates observations and models to study coastal currents, pollutant dispersion, and climate-driven changes in marine systems. His recent publications address topics like Gulf of St. Lawrence circulation, PBDE distribution, and Salish Sea cadmium dynamics. He collaborates on projects involving autonomous gliders, floats, and moorings to advance robotic ocean observing systems.
