Samuel Tanner is a Lecturer at the Lucerne School of Engineering and Architecture (HSLU), part of the Institute of Medical Engineering. He holds additional roles as Senior Research Associate and has been a lecturer since 2015. His career includes work as an ESA-certified Operations Engineer for biological experiments on the ISS (2008–2015) and as a Researcher in population genetics and evolutionary biology at the University of Zurich (2005–2008). Professional training includes a MSc in Biology (Zoology) from the University of Zurich and a vocational degree in Mechanical Design.
Research interests span medical engineering, space biology, molecular biology, genetics, and anatomy/physiology. Projects include the Space Bioreactor, COSMOS Data Cockpit for personalized medicine, and advancements in cataract surgery techniques. He teaches modules such as Cell Biology, Human Anatomy & Physiology, and Molecular Biology/Genetics.
Publications focus on cellular responses to microgravity, molecular systematics of insects, and marine organism genetics. His work bridges engineering, biology, and space science, reflecting interdisciplinary expertise.
