Christina Giger - Lange is a Lecturer at the Institute of Medical Engineering (IMT) within the Lucerne School of Engineering and Architecture (HSLU). She holds a PhD in Retinal Cell Biology from the University of Zurich (2007-2010) and a Master's in Biology and Neuroscience from ETH Zurich (2001-2006). Her research focuses on biomedical engineering, ophthalmology, and space biotechnology. She leads the Oertli Research Lab, specializing in ophthalmological instrumentation for Oertli Instrumente AG, and directs a microbiological lab collaborating with health and hygiene research groups. Her work spans clinical studies, microgravity research (e.g., Space Bioreactor projects), and innovative surgical techniques.
Key research areas include retinal degeneration mechanisms, microgravity impacts on cells, and biomedical device development. She has contributed to over 12 peer-reviewed publications, with recent work addressing free radical reduction in cataract surgery and microgravity effects on cell physiology. Her leadership in interdisciplinary projects highlights expertise in translating lab research to clinical and space applications.
Notable projects include collaborations on Oertli surgical instruments, Legionella control in buildings, and studies on cartilage repair under microgravity. Teaching responsibilities include laboratory courses in cell biology, chemistry, and anatomy/physiology.
