Samuel Nyholm is a Professor of Illustration at the University of the Arts Bremen since 2012, leading the Illustration department with a focus on multidisciplinary practices spanning visual communication, fine art, and design. He previously taught Graphic Design at ECAL (Lausanne) and co-founded the design collective Reala after studying at Konstfack in Stockholm. Active as illustrator/cartoonist 'SANY' since 2007, his work has been exhibited globally (MOMA PS1 New York, Design Museum London) and commissioned by clients like Die Zeit, Bloomberg, and IKEA.
He chairs the Integrated Design Study Commission (2021–2022) and serves as International Coordinator for Integrated Design since 2019. Co-director of the Cartoon & Low Comedy Center with Prof. Olav Westphalen, and founder of Pillow Lava, an international educators' network with Olivier Lebrun. His teaching includes courses like 'Draw with Trash' and 'Illustration Générale', emphasizing analog roots combined with digital exploration.
