Samuel Nemanich, Ph.D., MSCI is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Occupational Therapy at Marquette University. His research focuses on understanding neural control of movement in neurological conditions using behavioral and neurophysiological techniques. He holds a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology (2010), and dual M.S. and Ph.D. in Movement Science from Washington University in St. Louis (2016). His postdoctoral training (2016-2020) at the University of Minnesota’s Department of Rehabilitation Medicine included teaching in physical therapy and rehabilitation science programs.
Research Highlights:
- Examined gait control in Parkinson’s disease patients
- Advanced non-invasive brain stimulation for cerebral palsy and perinatal stroke rehabilitation
- Investigates neuroplasticity mechanisms in pediatric populations
- Future work focuses on optimizing motor skill rehabilitation for children with atypical development
Awards & Grants:
- NIH-supported fellowships (TL1 & StrokeNet)
- Co-PI for NCNM4R pilot grant
He leads the Pediatric Movement and Neuroscience Lab (PMNL) and has taught courses in neuromotor control and neuroimaging techniques. His work bridges clinical neuroscience with rehabilitation practice to improve motor function outcomes.
