Samuel M. Galvagno

Col. Samuel M. Galvagno serves as Tenured Professor and Interim Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine while concurrently holding the military position of Mobilization Assistant to the Commander at the 711th Human Performance Wing, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. He oversees 2,000+ personnel and a $421 million budget across biotechnology, aerospace medicine, public health, and bioenvironmental engineering initiatives.

His academic foundation includes a Ph.D. in Public Health from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health (2012), Doctorate in Osteopathic Medicine from New York College of Osteopathic Medicine (2000), and B.S. in Biopsychology from Mount Saint Mary’s University (1996). Additional credentials feature an MBA from the University of Maryland (2023) and Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification.

His scientific recognition features multiple Presidential Citations from the Society of Critical Care Medicine and the CRISP Patty Brown Innovation Award for critical care system design. Consistent excellence in clinical teaching is evidenced by Golden Apple Awards and repeated Critical Care Attending of the Year honors at R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center.
