Dr. Samuel Leighton is a Clinical Lecturer and ST6 General Adult Psychiatrist affiliated with the School of Health & Wellbeing at the University of Glasgow. He specializes in using machine learning to predict outcomes in first-episode psychosis patients. His research focuses on integrating clinical data and biological markers to improve personalized treatment strategies. Dr. Leighton holds an MBChB from the University of Edinburgh (2011) and advanced qualifications in Biochemistry (BMedSci Hons) and clinical certifications (MRCP 2014, MRCPsych 2016).

Research interests include machine learning applications in psychiatry, inflammatory markers in mental illness, and digital health tools. He developed the NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde Antimicrobial Guidelines App, used in 195 countries. His current PhD fellowship (Chief Scientist Office) explores prospective prediction models for psychosis using the EMPATH platform.
Key collaborations include work with Dr. Pavan Mallikarjun (University of Birmingham) and supervisors Prof. Jonathan Cavanagh, Dr. Fani Deligianni, and Dr. Rajeev Krishnadas. He has published extensively on psychosis prognosis, chemokine analysis in depression, and dementia risk prediction.
