معرفی
Dr. Samson Pandam Salifu is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology at the College of Science, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, Ghana. He holds a PhD in Bacterial Viral Genomics from Edinburgh Napier University (2011), an MSc in Biomedical Science (Distinction) from the same institution (2006), and a BSc in Medical Science from Gazi University, Turkey (2000). His academic career spans over a decade at KNUST with leadership roles in laboratory management and postgraduate coordination.
Education:
- PhD in Bacterial Viral Genomics, Edinburgh Napier University, UK (2011)
- MSc in Biomedical Science (Distinction), Edinburgh Napier University, UK (2006)
- BSc in Medical Science, Gazi University, Turkey (2000)
Research Focus: Dr. Salifu specializes in translational genomics for clinical applications, with expertise in pathogen diagnostics, cancer genomics (particularly Burkitt Lymphoma and breast cancer), and microbiome-cancer interactions. His work bridges molecular biology, bioinformatics, and public health through development of diagnostic tools, genomic data analysis pipelines, and sustainable training frameworks for African researchers.
Publication Trends: His 2017-2022 publications demonstrate dual expertise in computational oncology (biomarker discovery for hematologic malignancies) and infectious disease modeling (meningitis transmission dynamics in Ghana). A significant thread involves capacity building through H3ABioNet, where he develops scalable bioinformatics training solutions addressing Africa-specific challenges like internet instability.
Scientific Recognition:
- University Medal for academic excellence and MSc research (2006)
- PhD Studentship in Bacterial Viruses (2007)
Research Leadership: As Examiner for BSc/MPhil/PhD theses since 2014, he mentors the next generation of scientists. His $590,000+ NIH/Fogarty-funded projects establish him as a key architect of Africa's bioinformatics infrastructure, focusing on sustainable leadership development and computational solutions for African health challenges.
Collaborative Networks: Through H3ABioNet and Pan African Bioinformatics Network, he co-chairs critical working groups that develop continent-wide bioinformatics support systems, while serving on Ghana's National TB Laboratory Technical Committee to translate genomic insights into public health practice.
