Akwasi Acheampong

Prof. Akwasi Acheampong is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Physical and Computational Sciences, and Dean of the Faculty of Educational Studies at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). His educational credentials include dual PhDs (University of Paris-Sud and KNUST), an MSc in Pharmaceutical Chemistry (KNUST), and a BSc First Class Honours in Chemistry (University of Cape Coast).

His research spans eight interconnected domains:

• Natural Products Chemistry: Phytoconstituent analysis of medicinal plants for antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties
• Lipid Chemistry: HPLC-MS characterization of vegetable oil triacylglycerols to identify omega-3/6 sources
• Pharmaceutical Analysis: Drug quality assessment against British Pharmacopoeia standards
• Water/Food Safety: Contaminant testing in Ghanaian water sources and food products
• Environmental Pollution: Heavy metal/radionuclide monitoring in ecosystems
• Chemical Ecology: Semio-chemical identification for biological pesticide development
• Chemistry Education: Diagnosing learning barriers and curriculum reform

With over 50 refereed publications and 15 years of service since 2006, he has supervised 150+ undergraduates and 30+ postgraduates including 5 PhD graduates. His leadership extends to managing the Rothamsted Chemical Ecology project and national education initiatives.
