Sampsa Hyysalo is a Professor in the Department of Design at Aalto University. His interdisciplinary work bridges design participation, science & technology studies, and innovation studies, focusing on designer-user relations in sociotechnical change and sustainability transitions. He is a leading figure in the Biographies of Artifacts and Practices research approach, which traces actor contributions in innovation processes.
- Education: PhD in Behavioral Sciences (University of Helsinki), MA and Licentiate in Cultural History, Docenture in User-Centered Design of Information Systems.
His research explores how renewable energy technologies and citizen participation intersect, with a particular emphasis on co-design, user innovation, and intermediaries in sustainability transitions. Earlier work concentrated on healthcare information technologies and participatory design in the public sector. His publications include seven books and over 120 peer-reviewed articles.
