Sammi Munson is an Instructor and Researcher in the Department of Communication at George Mason University (GMU), affiliated with the Center for Climate Change Communication (4C). She holds an MS in Environmental Science from The Ohio State University, focusing on Public Health, and completed her doctoral studies in Science Communication at GMU. Her teaching spans courses like COMM 101, COMM 200, COMM 332, COMM 430, and COMM 433, emphasizing communication theory, environmental advocacy, and nonverbal communication.
Her research interests center on climate change communication, instructional strategies, and environmental identity. Recent work explores public perception of climate issues during economic crises, media coverage of climate solutions, and interdisciplinary communication needs across academic disciplines. She employs mixed-methods approaches to study behavioral change and civic engagement related to environmental advocacy.
Munson’s articles analyze topics like journalist reporting practices, normative influences on climate action, and the psychological underpinnings of environmentalist identity. She currently holds no listed awards but contributes to GMU’s communication initiatives and collaborates with peers in the CHAR(M) Lab and Popular Culture Studies Lab. Office hours are Mondays 8-9pm and Thursdays 11am-12pm.
