Samia Nour

Prof. Dr. Samia Nour is a Visiting Professor of Economics at the Department of Business, Fulda University of Applied Sciences, Germany, since January 2024. She holds concurrent positions as Head of the Department of Economics at the Faculty of Economic and Social Studies, University Khartoum, Sudan (since 2021), and Professor of Economics at Khartoum University (since 2016). Her career spans institutions such as the African Studies Centre (Leiden University), UNU-MERIT (Maastricht), and the Nordic Africa Institute (Uppsala), with research fellowships at ERF (Cairo) and Christian Michelsen Institute (Bergen).

Education:

• Ph.D. in Economics (2005), Maastricht University (supervised by Prof. Joan Muysken and Dr. Thomas Zisemer)

• B.Sc. (First Class, Distinction) in Economics (1994), University of Khartoum

Research Focus: Her work bridges Labour Economics, Knowledge Economy, and Development Economics with emphasis on technological change, skill development, ICT impacts, and gender disparities. Recent projects analyze food security in Sudan, COVID-19 economic effects, and South-South digital cooperation.

Scientific Output: Her publications span journals like Journal of China Agricultural Economic Review and Minerva, books including Economic Systems of Innovation in the Arab Region (Palgrave, 2016), and policy reports for UNESCO, ILO, and UNDP. She contributes to editorial teams of the African Development Perspectives Yearbook (since 2020) and International Journal of Sudan Research (since 2016).
