Sami Toikkonen is a Doctoral Researcher in the Doctoral Programme in Engineering and Natural Sciences, affiliated with the Materials Science and Environmental Engineering department. His work focuses on advancing lead-free perovskite-inspired materials for photovoltaic applications.
Research interests include perovskite solar cells, hole transport materials, semiconductor defect engineering, and alloying strategies for renewable energy technologies. His studies address critical challenges in stability, efficiency, and environmental sustainability of photovoltaic devices.
Recent publications explore structural disorder in bismuth-based materials, doping requirements for Spiro-OMeTAD, antimony-bismuth alloying for efficiency boosts, simplified fluorene-based hole transport layers, and Cu2AgBiI6 for indoor photovoltaics. These align with UN Sustainable Development Goals for clean energy and responsible innovation.
