Sami Muhaidat is a Professor and Theme Leader at the Center for Cyber-Physical Systems, Khalifa University (KU), UAE, and concurrently serves as Deputy Director of the KU 6G Research Center. He holds an adjunct professorship with Carleton University’s Department of Systems and Computer Engineering. His academic journey includes roles as Associate Professor at Khalifa University (2015–2019) and Assistant Professor at Simon Fraser University (2008–2012). He earned his Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Waterloo (2006) and completed an NSERC postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Toronto (2007–2008).
His research focuses on communication theory and machine learning applications in wireless networks, with seminal contributions to cognitive radio networks, MIMO systems, optical communications, NOMA, and 5G/6G technologies. He has pioneered work on low-power wireless networks, backscatter communications, and hardware impairments in future networks.
Dr. Muhaidat holds editorial leadership roles, including Area Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Communications (2014–2023) and Lead Guest Editor for the IEEE OJ-COMS special issue on wireless-powered networks. He has served as Senior Editor for IEEE Communications Letters and Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology.
He currently chairs the IEEE UAE SPC Chapter and actively contributes to the global research community through editorial and organizational roles.
His affiliations include leadership in KU’s 6G Research Center and cross-institutional collaborations between Khalifa University and Carleton University.
