Sameer Rahatekar is a Lecturer at the Enhanced Composites and Structures Centre of Cranfield University. He earned his PhD from the University of Cambridge and conducted postdoctoral research at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), USA.
His research focuses on advanced textiles from renewable polymers, including cellulose, alginate, and chitosan. He is a world-leading expert in sustainable polymer fibres, nanocomposites, and composites manufacturing, leading a research group with 10 PhD and 2 MSc students.
Rahatekar has secured over £4 million in research funding from EPSRC, Innovate UK, the British Council, the Royal Academy of Engineering, and industrial partners. His work is part of the UKRI Textiles Circularity Centre, emphasizing sustainable textiles for a circular bioeconomy. With 53 journal papers, 2341 citations, and an H-index of 27 (Google Scholar), his contributions bridge materials science and sustainable manufacturing.
