Samar Hegazy

Samar Hegazy is a Teaching Assistant Professor at the Carle Illinois College of Medicine (CI MED) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, specializing in Biomedical and Translational Sciences. She holds leadership roles as the Discipline Lead for Histology and Pathology, co-Director of the Lifespan Health Curricular Thread, and Respiratory Course Director. Her academic journey includes a Doctor of Medicine (Zagazig University, 1997), PhD in Molecular Pathology (University of Alberta, 2012), and a Master of Education in Health Professions (Johns Hopkins University, 2024).

Dr. Hegazy’s research bridges molecular pathology and medical education, focusing on tumor biomarkers, cell signaling, and curriculum development. Notable contributions include federal-funded work on women’s health education using 3D-printed models and AI-driven simulation training. She has authored over 20 peer-reviewed articles, with recent work exploring social determinants of health in medical education and escape rooms for clinical skill development.
