Samantha Wolstencroft

Dr. Samantha Wolstencroft is a Senior Lecturer in British Political History at Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU), affiliated with the Department of History, Politics and Philosophy. She has taught at MMU since 1996 and holds a BA in Politics and Economic History, a PhD on the Liberal Party’s decline (both from Manchester), and postgraduate research at the Institute of Historical Research, University of London. She served as an External Examiner in Economic History at the University of Manchester (2017–2019).

Her research focuses on British political history, including Labour Party dynamics, electoral reform, and the interplay between culture and politics. Notable works include *The Progressive Alliance and the Rise of Labour* (2018) and *Shout! Popular Music and Protest Culture in 1980s Britain* (2022). Current projects explore regional art and theatre’s political significance in North Staffordshire and 20th-century political campaigning visuals.

In teaching, she emphasizes modern British political history, organizes annual Berlin study trips, and has engaged in prison education initiatives. Her pedagogical philosophy prioritizes critical thinking and student engagement. Beyond academia, she remains active in political advocacy,曾 served as a director of the Electoral Reform Society, and nurtures interests in snooker, Russian literature, and classical music.
