Samantha Catanzano

Dr. Samantha Catanzano serves as a Clinical Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice at The University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy and works as a Psychiatric Pharmacist at UT Health Austin within the Integrated Behavioral Health Department. She provides clinical services across Primary Care, Musculoskeletal, and Bipolar Disorder clinics as part of a multidisciplinary team addressing complex pharmacological and mental health needs in community settings.

Her educational background includes a Pharm.D. from the University of Texas at Austin, followed by a pharmacy practice residency and a psychiatric pharmacy practice residency at Seton Healthcare Family and UT Austin College of Pharmacy. Prior to her current roles, she gained clinical experience as a pharmacist at Austin State Hospital.

Dr. Catanzano's research program centers on two critical areas: assessing well-being and burnout among student pharmacists and practicing pharmacists, and advocating for expanded pharmacist roles in mental health care to improve service accessibility. Her work emphasizes mental health support within pharmacy education and the integration of psychiatric pharmacy services into primary care models.

Her publication portfolio demonstrates consistent focus on psychiatric pharmacy practice, mental health stigma reduction, and pharmacist workforce issues, with recent studies examining burnout among board-certified psychiatric pharmacists, mental health first aid integration in pharmacy education, and long-acting injectable medication administration.

She has received significant recognition including the Class of 2025 Teaching Award (2024), dual Citations for Outstanding Faculty (2023-2024), and regional preceptor awards. Additional honors include the Alumni Centennial Endowed Fellowship in Pharmacy and AACP Aspiring Academics Program mentorship.

Dr. Catanzano mentors P4 pharmacy students during Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience rotations and provides academic instruction to medical students and psychiatry residents through Dell Medical School. She also serves as a certified Mental Health First Aid instructor and holds leadership positions within the American Association of Psychiatric Pharmacists.

Her clinical work involves direct patient care within UT Health Austin's multidisciplinary teams, focusing on optimizing pharmacotherapy for complex mental health conditions while contributing to institutional initiatives that expand access to psychiatric pharmacy services.
