Samantha Butts

Samantha Butts, MD, MSCE is a Professor and Vice Chair of Education in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Penn State University. She also serves as Chief of the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility. Her work bridges clinical research with medical education.

Research Interests: Her clinical research focuses on fertility treatment outcomes, early pregnancy loss, and reproductive aging. She has extensively studied epigenetics in reproduction and health disparities in women's reproductive healthcare. Additionally, she uses ACGME Milestone data to analyze trainee competency and professional transition in obstetrics.

Teaching & Education: A pioneer in adaptive medical education, she developed precision learning platforms for women's health curricula. She previously held leadership roles in resident education at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

Grants & Projects: Her funded projects include the Penn Center for Study of Epigenetics in Reproduction (active since 2014) and NIH/NICHD studies on maternal exposures affecting fetal growth. She has led grants since 2011 exploring epigenetic factors and metabolic predictors in reproductive health.
