Sam Heppell is an Assistant Professor (Clinical) at the University of Utah’s College of Law and the founding director of the Mental Health Legal Clinic, launching in January 2026. He joined Utah Law in 2025 after serving as a clinical teaching fellow at the University of Chicago’s Abrams Environmental Law Clinic (2023–2025) and practicing civil rights law at Loevy + Loevy (2015–2023), focusing on police brutality and wrongful convictions. He clerked for Justice Michael Moldaver at Canada’s Supreme Court after earning his JD from Harvard Law School (2014) and BA from the University of British Columbia (2008).
