Sam Harrison is a Midwifery Teaching Fellow at the School of Health Sciences, University of Surrey. They joined the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences in January 2022. With over two decades of experience in maternity care since qualifying as a midwife in 2001, Harrison has held roles including Practice Development Midwife at Chelsea and Westminster NHS Trust and coordinator of labour ward/integrated birth centre operations. Their academic roles include leading the Year 2 midwifery programme, contributing to the Schwartz steering group, and overseeing the Sept23 Cohort as its lead.
Education qualifications include an RM (Midwifery Registration), BSc (Hons), PGCAP (FHEA), and an MSc in Advanced Practice—Healthcare Education. Their master’s dissertation focused on student experience in simulation-based education. Professional interests span Newborn Life Support (NLS), Examination of the Newborn (EON), and enhancing clinical education through interprofessional collaboration.
Key responsibilities include staff development, student placement coordination, and advancing quality and safety standards in maternity care. Harrison’s work bridges clinical practice and academic teaching, emphasizing evidence-based practice and interprofessional education.
