Sam Girton is an Associate Professor in the School of Visual Communication at Ohio University, part of the Scripps College of Communication. His research and creative interests center on visual storytelling, digital media design, and experiential learning through international programs. Sam Girton has received the University Professor Award for the 2012–2013 academic year in recognition of his excellence in teaching and academic service. He is actively involved in student development, serving as faculty advisor for the Ohio University Multimedia Society (OUMS), mentoring 30–40 undergraduates and 4–6 graduate students annually, and facilitating internships and job placements. He also served as Director of Academic Technology for Ohio University Information Technology, bridging pedagogy and digital infrastructure.
He has collaborated with various academic units, including the School of Interior Architecture and the School of Media Arts and Studies, resulting in student work exhibited at the Chicago Art Institute and recognized internationally. His leadership in creative workshops, such as the USAID-funded design workshop at the University of Guyana, underscores his commitment to global engagement and applied learning.
