Sam Edwards is a Reader in Modern Political History and School Director of Knowledge Exchange at Loughborough University. He previously held leadership roles at Manchester Metropolitan University, including Head of the Department of History, Politics and Philosophy, and founded the Manchester Centre for Public History and Heritage. He is a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society and Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
- Education: PhD (Lancaster University), Fulbright Distinguished Scholar Award (University of Pittsburgh).
His research focuses on commemoration/heritage, transatlantic relations, film/TV history, and the history of running. He is Co-Editor of the British Journal for Military History and Vice-Chair of the Transatlantic Studies Association.
Notable recognitions include the Gladstone Prize nomination for his monograph Allies in Memory. He actively collaborates with media outlets including BBC, CNN, and Washington Post, providing expert commentary on historical topics and running culture.
He serves as Trustee of Sulgrave Manor, Trustee of The D-Day Story, and Governor of The American Library in Norwich, linking historical preservation with public engagement.
