Salvatore Scire

Salvatore Scirè is a Full Professor of Industrial Chemistry at the Department of Chemical Sciences, University of Catania. He currently teaches

• Fundamentals of Industrial Chemistry (2nd year B.D. course)
• Industrial Chemical Processes and Plant Elements (3rd year B.D. course)
• Catalysis and Photocatalysis for the Environment and Energy (1st year M.D. course)

His research focuses on heterogeneous catalysis, with applications in environmental protection, energy production (e.g., hydrogen generation via water-splitting), and chemiometrics. He collaborates with petrochemical and microelectronic industries.

Prof. Scirè has served as Vice-President of the Industrial Chemistry Division of the Italian Chemical Society (SCI) since February 2025 and coordinates the PhD in Chemical Sciences at the University of Catania. He is a co-editor of the topical collection 'Gold Catalysts' in the journal Catalysts (MDPI) and sits on editorial boards of J - Multidisciplinary Scientific Journal, J. Photocatalysis, and Materials (MDPI). He has managed research projects including PRIN 1999, PRIN 2001, and PON R&C 2007-2013 'BIO4BIO.'

With over 135 journal publications, 1 patent, and 130+ conference communications, his work centers on oxide-supported metal catalysts, photocatalytic processes, and hydrogen purification for fuel cells. He has held visiting roles internationally, including at Reading University (UK) in 1993.

Prof. Scirè is also involved in institutional leadership as delegate for the CIRCC Consortium (2017–present) and as Quality Assurance Commission President (2022–2025).
