Salvatore Federico is a Professor at the Schulich School of Engineering, holding dual appointments in the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering and the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Calgary. He also serves as an Adjunct Professor in the Faculty of Kinesiology, demonstrating his cross-disciplinary expertise in engineering and biomechanics.

- Bachelor of Arts in Greek and Roman Studies with Distinction from the University of Calgary (2021)
Professor Federico's research spans Continuum Mechanics and Biomechanics, with significant contributions to geometrical foundations of Continuum Mechanics, theory of elasticity in linear and non-linear regimes, and microstructural constitutive models for soft tissues. His work in biological tissue mechanics includes articular cartilage modeling and growth and remodelling processes. He has participated in major university strategic initiatives including Engineering Solutions for Health (2015-2021) and New Earth Space Technologies (2016-2021).
His research has been recognized with numerous awards, including induction as a Corresponding Member of the Accademia Peloritana dei Pericolanti in Italy (2023) and as a Scholar of the Canadian Society for Biomechanics (2023), along with the Journal of Biomechanical Engineering Editor's Choice List (2016) and the ASB Young Scientist Post Doctoral Award (2010).
Professor Federico is an accomplished educator who teaches advanced courses including ENME 653 Advanced Continuum Mechanics and PHEN 381/BMEN 381 Continuum Mechanics I. He has received multiple Teaching Achievement Awards (2022, 2020, 2019) and the 2024 Graduate Teaching Excellence Award. As noted in his July 2024 update, his research funds are currently almost entirely allocated, so he can only consider students with external funding who demonstrate strong foundations in Linear Algebra, Differential-Integral-Vector Calculus and Mechanics.
