Salvatore Failla is a Full Professor of Chemical Foundations of Technologies (CHIM/07) at the University of Catania, Italy. He has held academic positions since 1985, including roles as a researcher, associate professor at La Sapienza University of Rome, and full professor at his current institution. His teaching spans courses in chemistry for engineering students, sustainable chemistry, and environmental applications.
Research Focus: His work centers on the synthesis of organic and organometallic compounds for sensors, molecular recognition, and green chemistry. Key areas include Zn(II) Schiff-base complexes, supramolecular aggregation, and eco-friendly flame retardants. He has collaborated internationally at UCSD, University College Dublin, and institutions in Germany.
Awards & Leadership: He received the 1985 Guido Donegani scholarship and 1986 Operosità Scientifica award. He leads roles in AICIng (President-elect, 2014-2018) and the Italian Chemical Society, contributing to national academic policy.
- Post-graduate scholarship of the Guido Donegani Foundation (1985)
- Operosità Scientifica award (1986)
- Award for outstanding scientific and educational merits, AICIng (2023)
Publications: Over 100 ISI articles and a 2016 textbook on General and Inorganic Chemistry. Recent work explores metal complexes' structural properties, self-assembly, and applications in sensing and nanomaterials.
