Sally Shuttleworth

Professor Sally Shuttleworth is a Professor of English Literature at the University of Oxford and a Senior Research Fellow at St Anne's College. Her work focuses on the intersections of literature, science, and medicine in the 19th century, with recent projects exploring parallels between Victorian and modern scientific practices. She led major research initiatives like the 'Diseases of Modern Life' (EU-funded) and 'Constructing Scientific Communities' (AHRC-funded), collaborating with institutions such as the Natural History Museum and Royal Society.

Education: BA in English Literature and Sociology from the University of York (1974), PhD in English Literature from Darwin College, Cambridge (1980). Former academic roles include Lecturer positions at Princeton University, University of Leeds, and University of Sheffield. Served as Head of the Humanities Division at Oxford (2006-2011).
