Sally Peyman is an Associate Professor at Heriot-Watt University's Institute of Biological Chemistry, Biophysics and Bioengineering, within the School of Engineering & Physical Sciences. She holds a Visiting Professor position at the University of Leeds (2024–2027). Her academic journey includes a BSc in Chemistry with Forensic Science & Toxicology from the University of Hull, a PhD in microfluidics for clinical diagnostics (2010, supervised by Prof. Nicole Pamme), and postdoctoral roles at Imperial College London and the University of Leeds.
Her research focuses on microfluidics, organ-on-chip models, drug delivery mechanisms, tumour mechanics, and biosensors. Key contributions include developing lab-on-a-chip solutions for cancer biophysics and replacing animal models in research. Recent work addresses drug delivery barriers in pancreatic cancer, hydrogel mechanics, and ultrasound-triggered therapeutics.
Notable collaborations involve interdisciplinary teams in nanotechnology, biomedical engineering, and environmental science. Sally’s work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health and innovation. She actively supervises PhD students and contributes to academic leadership in her field.
