Dr Sally Day is a Research Fellow and Lecturer in the Discipline of Occupational Therapy at the University of Sydney's Sydney School of Health Sciences within the Faculty of Medicine and Health. She is a member of the Sydney Southeast Asia Centre and the Charles Perkins Centre.
Her research focuses on dementia care, particularly for diverse populations, implementation of evidence-based practices, and non-pharmacological interventions. She completed her PhD in 2024 titled 'Occupational therapy interventions for people with dementia from diverse groups: A realist inquiry' and joined the University of Sydney in 2016. Current projects include reducing dementia stigma through community participation, developing diagnostic tools for frontotemporal dementia, and the FAST trial for fall prevention post-stroke.
Teaching responsibilities include undergraduate and postgraduate occupational therapy education, with supervision of honors and higher-degree research students. She provides training in the COPE program, an evidence-based intervention for dementia care.
Key awards include a 2021-2023 PhD scholarship from the Dementia Centre Research Collaboration (DCRC). Her work emphasizes cross-sector collaboration, policy development, and culturally adapted interventions to improve dementia care outcomes.
Professional affiliations include the Australian Association of Gerontology and Sydney Dementia Network, reflecting her commitment to advancing interdisciplinary approaches in aging and dementia research.
