Dr. Anne-Nicole Casey is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Centre for Healthy Brain Ageing (CHeBA), UNSW Sydney. Her work focuses on social relationships, dementia, and cognitive health in aging populations. She has held roles including Postdoctoral Fellow (2022–present), Postdoctoral Research Associate (2021–2022), and Research Officer (2021–2022), primarily within CHeBA and the Dementia Centre for Research Collaboration (DCRC).
Her research explores how social networks and engagement influence cognitive decline and dementia risk. Notable projects include the Sydney Memory and Ageing Study (SMAS) and the Maintain Your Brain (MYB) study, funded by NHMRC and other grants. She has contributed to updates of clinical guidelines for managing dementia-related behavioral symptoms (BPSD Guide) and co-designed interventions for mild cognitive impairment.
Key findings include the role of social network quality over quantity in cognitive health and the importance of humor therapy in aged care settings. Her work emphasizes translating research into clinical practice through collaborations with policymakers and healthcare providers.
Dr. Casey holds a PhD from DCRC, UNSW Sydney (2012–2016), focusing on social relationships in dementia patients via the FRIEND Study. She has published extensively on social gerontology, dementia care, and behavioral interventions, with over 30 peer-reviewed articles.
