Sally Cook is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Geography and Environmental Sciences, Ulster University. She has served as Course Director for the Masters in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) since its inception in 1999. Her academic career spans over two decades, with a focus on GIS science, technology, and its applications in social, environmental, and health impact analysis.
Her research bridges GIS methodology with education system challenges in Northern Ireland, particularly in divided societies. Key projects include examining home-school travel patterns, mapping educational provision duplication, and policy briefings on cross-border communities. Sally actively promotes GIS adoption in secondary education and contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals through her work.
Recent research outputs (2023–2025) highlight collaborations with researchers like S. Roulston and J. Bates, spanning topics such as primary education, geographic methodologies, and environmental cost analysis. Her awards include team and industry recognitions for teaching excellence and GIS education innovation.
