معرفی
Dr Salah Elias is an Associate Professor in Epithelial Cell Biology at the University of Southampton's School of Biological Sciences. His research focuses on understanding oriented cell division mechanisms in mammary epithelium to elucidate defects linked to breast cancer. He leads a lab investigating cell polarity, stem cell dynamics, and cancer biology.
Education: PhD in Neuroscience from Université de Rouen, France (advisor: Prof. Maite Montero-Hadjadje). Postdoctoral training included work on huntingtin's role in cell division at the Curie Institute (Dr. Sandrine Humbert), followed by identification of Blimp1-expressing mammary stem cells at the University of Oxford (Prof. Elizabeth Robertson).
Key Achievements:
- Recipient of MRC New Investigator Research Grant (2018)
- Wellcome Trust Seed Award in Science (2018)
- Royal Society-funded project on mammary stem cell division
External roles: Reviewer for Frontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology (2021–2022), Chair of Royal Society committee (2020–2022).
Current supervision: Four PhD students across interdisciplinary programs (Biomed, Mathematical Sciences, Biological Sciences).
Lab Projects: Active studies include multiparameter flow cytometry for cell state analysis and deep learning approaches to breast tumor heterogeneity. Past projects explored genetic bases of cell division orientation in mammary stem cells.
