Dr Saije Endacott is a Research Associate at the University of Newcastle's School of Biomedical Sciences and Pharmacy, affiliated with the Hunter Medical Research Institute's Womens Health Research Program. She holds a PhD in Medical Biochemistry from the University of Newcastle (2021) and BSc (Honours) and BSc degrees in Biomedical Science. Her research focuses on the Renin-Angiotensin System (RAS) in pregnancy complications, particularly involving the (pro)renin receptor, and Indigenous health equity through the Gomeroi Gaaynggal Study. She co-leads the study's breastfeeding support arm and has secured over $2.2 million in grants, including a 2023 HMRI Fellowship. Recent work spans placental biology, preeclampsia mechanisms, and Indigenous maternal-child health outcomes.
Education:
- PhD in Medical Biochemistry, University of Newcastle (2021)
- Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Honours), University of Newcastle
- Bachelor of Biomedical Science, University of Newcastle
Research Interests: Dr Endacott's work integrates molecular biology with population health, emphasizing RAS dysregulation in pregnancy pathologies and improving health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Her studies on placental ACE2, s(P)RR biomarkers, and Indigenous breastfeeding practices highlight translational research priorities.
Article Trends: Her publications emphasize placental dysfunction mechanisms, biomarker discovery, and Indigenous health disparities. Recent work links s(P)RR levels to preterm birth risk and explores ACE2's role in mitigating oxidative stress.
Awards: 2023 Hunter Medical Research Institute Research Fellowship
Grants & Funding: Key grants include NHMRC funding for maternal iron studies ($1.99M) and HMRI bridging grants. She leads projects on placental ACE2 deficiency and breastfeeding support.
Supervision: Co-supervises PhD and Honours students on topics like preeclampsia therapeutics and placental hypoxia modeling.
Labs/Teams: Core member of the Gomeroi Gaaynggal Study, collaborating with First Nations communities and institutions like John Hunter Hospital and the University of Canberra.
