Sahar Mirzaie

Sahar Mirzaie is an Assistant Professor at Heriot-Watt University’s Institute for Sustainable Built Environment, part of the School of Energy, Geoscience, Infrastructure and Society. She specializes in data-driven retrofit strategies, life cycle assessment (LCA), and digital tools for decarbonizing the built environment. Her work bridges policy, industry, and academia to accelerate net-zero transitions and energy justice.

She holds a PhD in Construction Management, is an ONS-accredited researcher, and holds certifications including LEED Accredited Professional and Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (AFHEA). Her research focuses on three themes: data-driven retrofit design, automation of decarbonization tools, and policy integration of circular economy principles.

Mirzaie has secured grants from the Edinburgh Research Partnership in Engineering (ERPE), EPSRC, and the Research Culture Enhancement Fund. She leads interdisciplinary projects like the C-DICE Networking Sprint Award for a Net Zero Digital Twin Alliance. Her industry experience includes software development at arbnco Ltd and sustainability consultancy for LEED/BREEAM certifications.

Her research outputs span lifecycle performance analysis, energy efficiency platforms, and circular economy modeling. Awards include AFHEA and LEED accreditation, reflecting her academic and professional contributions to sustainable building science.
