Professor Aaron Gillich is a Professor of Building Decarbonisation and Director of the BSRIA LSBU Net Zero Building Centre at London South Bank University. His expertise spans low carbon heat systems, energy policy, and domestic retrofit programmes. He holds a PhD in Energy and Retrofit Policy (2015), MSc in Astronomy and Physics (2007), and BEng in Aerospace Engineering (2005). His research addresses the UK energy trilemma of affordable, secure, and low-carbon energy systems, with a focus on decarbonizing the built environment through innovative technologies and policy frameworks.
Key research areas include district heating networks, wastewater heat recovery, and thermal retention strategies. He has collaborated with UK government agencies like BEIS and led projects on energy efficiency, thermal modelling, and circular economy applications in construction materials. His work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly climate action (SDG 13) and affordable clean energy (SDG 7).
Prof. Gillich’s articles emphasize practical solutions for decarbonization, such as heat pump retrofits, fifth-generation district heating systems, and intelligent building controls. His research bridges technical innovation and policy implementation, aiming to accelerate net-zero transitions in urban environments. He teaches building physics, energy efficiency, and decarbonisation strategies at LSBU.
