Sadie J. Ryan is a Professor of Medical Geography at the University of Florida, affiliated with the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the Department of Geography. She leads the Quantitative Disease Ecology & Conservation Lab (QDEC Lab) and serves as Principal Investigator at the Emerging Pathogens Institute and Co-Director of the Florida Climate Institute. Her work bridges geospatial analysis, disease ecology, and conservation, focusing on vector-borne illnesses and the impacts of climate change on human and environmental health.
Education: Ph.D. in Environmental Science, Policy, and Management from UC Berkeley (2006) and B.A. in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from Princeton University (1998). Research emphasizes medical geography in global health, disease ecology, and geospatial modeling. She has advised numerous graduate students and postdoctoral researchers, contributing to studies on malaria, dengue, Zika, and tick-borne diseases.
Her publications explore climate-driven shifts in disease transmission, vector competence, and socioecological factors influencing pathogen spread. Recent work includes developing minimum data standards for vector research and analyzing climate change impacts on malaria risk. Ryan collaborates internationally, co-authoring studies on disease surveillance in Ecuador, Nepal, and Caribbean regions.
