Laura C. Harrington is a Professor in the Department of Entomology at Cornell University, part of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS). Her research focuses on mosquito biology, ecology, and behavior, particularly regarding disease transmission of pathogens like dengue, Zika, and malaria. She holds a PhD from the University of Massachusetts (1999) and postdoctoral training from UC Davis. Her fieldwork spans Thailand, Tanzania, Mexico, and the U.S. Northeast. She teaches courses on medical entomology and global health, and advises students across entomology, ecology, and biomedical sciences.
Key honors include the Donald C. Burgett Distinguished Advisor Award (2020), ESA Recognition Award (2019), and Stephen H. Weiss Presidential Fellowship (2015–present). She leads the Northeast Regional Center for Excellence in Vector-Borne Diseases, supported by an $8.7M CDC grant. Her research addresses climate change impacts, pesticide resistance, and vector control strategies. Collaborative projects include tick surveillance in New York and global studies on mosquito invasion dynamics.
Her lab explores mosquito mating behavior, blood-feeding patterns, and vector-human interactions. Recent grants fund studies on Aedes species invasion, tick-borne diseases, and innovative surveillance tools like Raman spectroscopy for age-grading mosquitoes. She emphasizes training the next generation of public health entomologists through academic programs and fieldwork initiatives.
