Kathleen R. Walker is a Professor in the Department of Entomology at the University of Arizona, Tucson, where she has been affiliated since 2002. Her work focuses on mosquito ecology, vector-borne diseases, and agro-ecology. She holds a Ph.D. in Entomology from the University of California, Berkeley, and a B.A. in Biology from Harvard/Radcliffe University. Dr. Walker teaches courses on Insect Biology, Agro-ecology, and Science Outreach, emphasizing practical fieldwork and community engagement. Her research explores the ecological and social drivers of arbovirus transmission, particularly dengue and Zika, in arid regions like the Arizona-Sonora border. She leads initiatives such as the Great Arizona Mosquito Hunt, a citizen science project enhancing vector surveillance. Collaborations include the U.S. EPA, USAID, and Mexican health authorities. Her studies address mosquito longevity, vector competence, and public perception of control measures. She has authored numerous peer-reviewed articles on tick and mosquito biology, climate impacts, and disease prevention strategies.
